The Mousetrap
(Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc)
Clymont Theatrical Club is proud to present Dame Agatha Christie's famous play "The Mousetrap". This play continues its record-breaking run of over 50 years in London, England. Performances will be on February 25th, 26th and 27th and March 4th and 5th.
The play is set in the 1950's, in an old English manor house, recently turned into a guesthouse. A murder is announced on the radio. An intriguing assortment of guests arrives through a winter storm. Quickly it becomes obvious that they are not all as they seem. Will there be another murder? Who's the victim? Who's the villain? Pit your wits as the exquisitely crafted plot unfolds.
As usual this venture has drawn together many talented and enthusiastic volunteers both to act and to work behind the scenes. Seasoned actor, Steve Hiebert, returns to the stage with May Chomin, Melody Mailman and Peter Smith. Andy Toms steps into the limelight he has so ably supplied in the past. Newcomers to the Clymont Stage include Leisa Radford, Paul Donnelly and Geoff Allcock. Leisa comes with considerable acting credentials.
Closets have been raided and consignment stores scoured for suitable costumes. Several community members have provided us with furniture. Karin Hodge is searching out props suitable for the time. Our actors will look good thanks to Lisa Day, an actor turned back stage crew, who will do make-up and hair. Sandy Carter and Cheryl Ducholke will be on hand to prompt in the unlikely event that the actors forget their lines. Rebecca Nantel comes with much high school stage experience to take the position of Stage Manager. Kyle Pilling and Devon Lepage will assist back-stage.
Many of you may remember last year's set designed by Geoff Allcock. Once again Geoff has shown that, though our stage is small, he is up to the challenge and can design and build a background suitable for our mystery. Many volunteers have stepped forward to help with set construction, painting and set dressing.
Returning Director, Vicky Smith, assisted by Bridget Toms and veteran Producer, Janet Lywood, assisted by Janet Allcock, pull the whole venture together.
And, of course, the evening includes the acclaimed Clymont buffet catered by Sandi Brinkman and Marilyn Saramaga. Designated tables seat 6 or 8 people - bring your friends. It's all great family entertainment for one low price of $25. Tickets are available from Shannon Pilling at 419.2919. All proceeds go to Clymont Hall.
Agatha Christie was born in 1891 and became one of the most prolific mystery writers of all time before her death in 1976. Who can have failed to have heard of her best-known detective characters Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot?
She herself was a subject of a mystery in 1926 when she disappeared for three weeks-a disappearance which has never been fully resolved.
