Construction Projects
A New Gazebo
|
Almost exactly like the one on the right, Clymont's new
gazebo is under construction south of the Hall. Last fall the
area was filled in and allowed to settle over the winter.
Already this spring, preparations are underway to pour the
concrete base. Very shortly the metal frame and shell will be
arriving from Arizona, where it spent a better winter than we
did here. A local contractor for the manufacturer will be
assembling everything when it arrives. Can't wait for
the opening ceremonies!!

Outdoor Recreational
Facilities Upgrades
The Clymont
MultiPurpose Recreational Facilities Upgrade Project is a two year
project and includes:
relocation of
the diamonds to make better use of the space available and to
eliminate the evening sun causing visibility and safety problems
at 1st base on Diamond 1 (Diamonds 2 and 3 will be moved due
north to put Diamond 2 into the extreme northeast corner of the
property, and Diamond 1 will be reversed so that the third base
lines on all diamonds will point due south from home plate),
installation of
fencing around all three diamonds (new backstops with larger
aprons to reduce foul balls into adjacent properties, higher
fencing in front of dugout/bench areas for improved safety, 8
foot fencing on outfield arc at 275 feet from home plate in
compliance with Softball Canada and Parkland County
recommendations, 4 foot fencing with weeping tile caps in all
other areas -- field dimensions are
suitable for both fastpitch (FunBall League) and slowpitch,
installation of
shale infields in all three diamonds to reduce maintenance
(dragging shale is cheaper and easier than cutting grass) and to
improve safety (playing surface is less irregular, reducing
injury risks from "bad hops" and sliding into uneven
surfaces at 2nd and 3rd bases),
installation of
a soccer pitch (where Diamond 3 is now) sized for a U11 soccer
game along its length or two U9 soccer games across its width,
upgraded outdoor
washroom facilities (sorry - they're still outhouses, but the new
ones will be more modern than the existing facilities and will
have sanitizer stations to clean your hands),
miscellaneous
other items needed to improve the grounds in general and to
ensure the continued maintenance of the new facilities.
